Lubrizol, a global leader in specialty chemicals, has partnered with Polyhose, a prominent fluid conveyance system manufacturer, to establish a state-of-the-art medical tubing manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu, India. This collaboration aims to significantly enhance the production of high-quality medical tubing, particularly for neurovascular and cardiovascular applications such as balloon catheters and minimally invasive procedure catheters.
Supported by the Government of Tamil Nadu, the partnership was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in the presence of key state officials, including Dr. T.R.B. Rajaa, Minister for Industries, and V Arun Roy, Industries Secretary. The new facility is expected to increase Lubrizol’s local medical tubing production volume fivefold, ensuring easier access to life-saving medical devices both within India and globally through exports.
The manufacturing process will utilize Lubrizol’s advanced medical-grade thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) and other thermoplastic polymers, known for their biocompatibility and high performance, thereby ensuring patient comfort. The facility will adhere to ISO 13485 standards, underscoring a commitment to producing safe and high-quality medical tubing.
This initiative aligns with Lubrizol’s broader investment strategy in India, reinforcing its dedication to a local-for-local and local-for-global approach. Over the past year, Lubrizol has committed more than $350 million USD to various projects in India, including the opening of a Global Capability Center in Pune and the development of a significant manufacturing facility in Aurangabad. The groundbreaking for the Tamil Nadu medical tubing facility is anticipated in 2025, with operations slated to commence in 2026.
